Search for and register with good value and low cost Internet Service Providers Connect your home PC to the internet – dial-up and broadband Use the advanced features of a variety of browsers – Chrome, Safari, Opera, and Firefox Perform advanced searching using Boolean Operators and specialist software Look for and download a wide variety of software (much of it free) to perform different work on your computer: for example software to perform the tasks listed below Listen to the radio from around the world and watch TV and video clips Join communities and share information on newsgroups and forums Chat to people around the world in chat rooms Talk to people around the world using internet telephony and send faxes internationally Free telephone calls, faxes and send free text messages Videoconferencing – see whom you are talking to via the internet Security and privacy for you and your children Understand and use firewalls, anti-virus and other software to reduce threats to your PC and personal data, reduce pop-up windows and adverts Use software to protect your children from ‘bad' websites while online Surf the web anonymously by removing the trail of websites on your PC and on the web Protect your privacy by password-protecting your email using ‘military' strength encryption
