However for their own reasons they had to pull out. Initially 8 people were meant to be traveling together, eventually this got whittled down to 4, or 5 if you include Nikki who has come as a facilitator, rather than a group member. One of the people who was meant to come with us, Margot, had written an e-mail to the group which set out the neatly put idea of a relationship’s development as “Forming, Storming, and Norming”.

This morning Helen and I were in the kitchen “storming”. At the very peak of the “Fuck yous” Evan’s voice loudly saying “Hello is there anyone there” a couple of times broke the spell, and within seconds Helen and I fell silent and politely asked Evan if he’d like a cup of tea. After a drink together I asked Evan if there was a a particular time he wanted us out by. He said. “Go when you’re ready, you can stay as long as you want. I don’t give a shit! I’ve got all the time in the world” A far cry from our experience at the caravan site the other day where we got a right telling off by the cleaners for not being out of the caravan on time. (They were in fact a slightly human form of the three headed dog Cerberus, who guards the underworld)

Evan took the others out for a drive around the locality while I got ready.

Pennan has been our favorite stop off in many ways, so it was with sadness we had to leave. As in the film “Local Hero” there’s a feeling of leaving something behind there, even if it’s somewhat romanticised.

Captain Evan “Aye Aye Sir!”

Outside of that, most of the day was spent traveling to our next accommodation which is in Lanark, (a place between Edinburgh and Glasgow).

When we arrived we found Lanark to be a small town. The only open restaurant we could find was below our flat and was a bit above our price band. So it was off to the local takeaway for yet another traditional English supper of Chicken Korma for the girls, Crunchy chicken in Peking sauce for me, and omelet for Colin. Who says the English cook book is the thinnest book in the world?

Tomorrow we’re going to visit Edinburgh for the day.

Previous Page

Next Page

UK Tour 2002 Day 17 Tuesday 2nd April 2002 During the process of organising this trip a number of other people had been involved with the intention of coming along too.
